Explained in non-technical terms,<\/span> AMOLED <\/span>screens<\/b> use a technology that controls individual light-emitting points independently, instead of using backlight layers to manage <\/span>screen illumination<\/b>, in order to display lines and images.<\/span><\/p>

To draw an analogy,<\/span> LCD screens<\/b> rely on a continuous light source underneath, with layers of backlighting and light control placed on top to visually form the images.<\/span><\/p>

In contrast,<\/span> AMOLED screens<\/b> display images using the same light-emitting layer, controlling each tiny point individually, which results in better contrast without increasing the overall screen thickness.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Although we\u2019re talking about millimeter differences, their integration into <\/span>wearable devices<\/b> can significantly impact the overall aesthetics and <\/span>thickness of the prototypes<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>

Specifically,<\/span> LCD screens<\/b> have a thickness ranging from 1.5 mm to 2.00 mm, while <\/span>AMOLED screens<\/b> typically measure between 0.6 mm and 1.00 mm.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Of course, these estimates are based solely on the screen\u2019s power consumption, without considering the additional energy requirements of other components and <\/span>electronic peripherals<\/b> commonly found in <\/span>electronic product prototypes<\/b><\/a>.<\/b><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Another key differentiating factor and clear advantage of <\/span>using AMOLED screens in prototypes<\/b> is their wide viewing angle. In <\/span>innovative smartwatches<\/b>, users increasingly appreciate not having to make exaggerated wrist movements to view screen content. This user experience requirement is achieved by measuring the <\/span>viewing angle capabilities of the screens<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>

In the case of<\/span> LCD screens<\/b>, which are also commonly used in these prototypes, effective viewing is achieved at angles of approximately 178\u00ba, while<\/span> AMOLED screens<\/b> typically offer viewing angles around 160\u00ba+.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

For example, in the case of<\/span> LCD touchscreens<\/b>, the average response time ranges from 5 ms to 15 ms, whereas for<\/span> AMOLED screens<\/b>, the response time is typically between 1 ms and 5 ms.<\/span><\/p>

Many <\/span>electronic product design companies<\/b><\/a> choose to work with <\/span>LCD screens<\/b> precisely because of the ease of access to this technology and the speed of implementation, as it is a more popular and widely understood solution.<\/span><\/p>

In our case, as <\/span>experts in electronic product prototyping<\/b><\/a>, we have chosen to incorporate <\/span>AMOLED screens<\/b>, as we already work with reliable suppliers of these displays and have developed proprietary technologies for their control.<\/span><\/p>

It is also very true that<\/span> AMOLED screens<\/b> are not the best option for every prototype. Based on our experience as a <\/span>prototyping lab<\/b>, the main risk when using <\/span>AMOLED screens<\/b> lies in the transition from prototype to industrial manufacturing.<\/span><\/p>

Mistakes related to the choice of <\/span>AMOLED screens<\/b> can sometimes become a major limitation. The main <\/span>AMOLED screen suppliers<\/b> are based in China, and these manufacturers often develop highly specific connector types and <\/span>AMOLED screen control firmware<\/b> that are difficult to manage.<\/span><\/p>

The main objective of these <\/span>Chinese AMOLED screen manufacturers<\/b> is to become captive suppliers. In other words, once you decide to include their <\/span>AMOLED screens<\/b> in an <\/span>electronic prototype<\/b>, it becomes very difficult to switch to a different <\/span>AMOLED screen supplier<\/b> in the future <\/span>mass manufacturing process of the prototype<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>

In general, <\/span>AMOLED screens<\/b> offer clear advantages over other <\/span>commercial display technologies<\/b>. <\/span>AMOLED screens<\/b> are commonly used in products that require high image quality, the display of text in very small spaces, and maximum battery life\u2014particularly in devices where the battery takes up more than 50% of the available space for electronics. On the other hand, in prototypes where these features are not critical to the product\u2019s success, alternative screen types may be used, which are often more durable and, in some cases, more robust.<\/span><\/p>
