Chronicle of Spain's Absence at #CES2025<\/b> <\/h1>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

At the sight of 14 elevator doors at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. It wasn't 7:00 AM on the second day of #CES2025<\/strong>, and I could tell it wasn't just any event.<\/span><\/p>

#CES<\/b> is the mecca of innovation when it comes to new products: 4500 exhibitors, 140 countries represented, nearly 150,000 attendees in a city that hides the party, to set the stage for <\/span>technological trends in the world.<\/span><\/p>

We quickly distinguish the two hemispheres: The technology from another planet. The one that isn't built without millions, nor sees the light of day at the hands of Paco. On the other side, no less interesting and much more populated, the hemisphere of warriors who rely on raw talent.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

What faith <\/span>Iv\u00e1n Bedia<\/b>. 12 miles, step by step, never ceasing to surprise us:<\/span><\/p>

There was the <\/span>USPTO<\/b><\/a> area. A perfectly designed stage acting as a magnet for talent. In the center, urns with original products and fakes to test the sense of smell for authenticity. Meanwhile, their \"officials\" fine-tuned the radar and listened in the background to avoid missing the call for attention.<\/span><\/p>

They got it right with us on the first try. Almost without introducing themselves, they described the list of challenges identified by their institutions and the compensation available for private companies that solve them. My eyes opened wide. For the figures and because I didn't know that in some parts of the world, public officials manage the innovation budget to truly innovate.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Among stands, hallways full of <\/span>technology<\/b> and entrepreneurs<\/strong>, most with slanted eyes, I frequently extended my visual map looking for the <\/span>\"Spain Innovation Space\"<\/b>. Over a decade of designing and developing products for inventors<\/strong><\/a> and Iberian startups made us trust the discovery. Because there's talent, and plenty of it.<\/span><\/p>

For surprises, the <\/span>Eureka Park<\/b>, a concentration of exhibitors with \"go to market\" ready products, based on IoT and AI, without distinction of industries or use cases. From items equipped with sensors to turn roads into safer environments for drivers, to <\/span>AI integration in kitchen robots<\/b> that aim to know and please us as much as grandmothers do.<\/span><\/p>

We continued searching in the mecca of innovation for <\/span>Made in Spain products<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>

While we dedicated time to understanding <\/span>horizontal technologies<\/b>, those developments that allow us to solve challenges from the junk drawer or improve the guts of some of our prototypes, I kept searching for familiar entrepreneurship.<\/span><\/p>

There it was, a very tall and very blue wall holding up the stars of Europe and two screens with a looping video. No one around. So we suspected a robot would arrive. As minutes passed, I focused my attention on the videos about the importance of caring for the seas and rivers. I think they chose the wrong video or the wrong fair.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

Behind the outdated partition, the spaces of France, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany were very present and prominent. About <\/span>90 tech companies<\/b> under the European flag were proudly showcasing their achievements as witnesses of our development. Almost all with products in development and research phases. The standout proposals focused on <\/span>complex additive manufacturing<\/b>, <\/span>metal part forming<\/b>, and some <\/span>AI development. The latter still in its infancy, focusing on less obvious problems.<\/span><\/p>

In France, universities promote challenges throughout the year to surprise at this event, some entrepreneurs told us. Similar programs in Germany and Switzerland. It was super easy to find the Italians and meet with them, though in terms of innovation, rather scarce. I didn't stop too long, keeping my eyes high looking for the output of the Next Generations European funds<\/strong>. Of course! How could I forget? The billions of euros we receive in Spain to innovate.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

We design and manufacture at least <\/span>100 innovative products<\/b><\/a> each year for inventors, entrepreneurs, startups, and established companies in Spain. Products ready to compete and worthy of a spot at <\/span>#CES<\/b>. Products that haven't received a single euro from the famous funds or others with similar objectives, at least not in their publicity. If this year we add another absence to the great <\/span>innovation product exhibition<\/b> in the world... I can't imagine what type of technology<\/strong> must be secretly cooking with so much money.<\/span><\/p>
